The Interview Process for Non-judge Members of the High Council of Justice Starts Today
Beginning December 8, 2022, the Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia starts the interview process for non-judge members of the High Council of Justice.
Parliament announced the competition on September 30, 2022. Later, Parliament’s Legal Issues Committee decided to make the interview process public.
The Parliament must select impartial, conscientious, and competent persons as non-judge members of the High Council of Justice. The members should enjoy high public trust and their election should be based on a broad consensus among political parties. This has the potential to significantly change the balance of power in the Council and reduce the degree of informal influence.
The five candidates supported by the Coalition will participate in the competition. The candidates were nominated by individual non-governmental organizations and higher educational institutions:
- Lika Sajaia - New Vision University professor;
- Ana Abashidze - Head of the Partnership for Human Rights;
- Dimitri Khachidze – Lawyer, member of the Georgian Bar Association;
- Sulkhan Saladze - Head of Good Governance and Freedom of Information Program (Caucasus Open Space); lecturer at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs;
- Giorgi Burjanadze - Deputy Public Defender of Georgia.
The Coalition will observe the interview process and share the relevant materials on its Facebook Page.
